These Days: A Video Montage

I created this video montage at the height of the pandemic to explore the themes of forced isolation and loneliness. 

The original idea for this film was to follow several days in the life of the main character to show the tedium of pandemic life. Since the soundtrack for the montage, the song These Days by Nico & the Velvet Underground runs approximately 3.5 minutes, I cut down the scope of the project to follow the main character through a single day. Instead of showing tedium through repetition, I opted to draw out each scene.

I chose to avoid the use of sound effects to create a sort of bubble for my character and remove the audience from them – to create a window for the audience to look in, but remove any feeling of closeness.

Since this project was conceived and filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, I served as the writer, film crew, actor, and editor, which gave me look into several pieces of the creation process.
